Some instruments used in our research and a brief description ...

MicroCTD

The MicroCTD collects data of temperature, conductivity, shear and pressure in the water column, profiling in downcast and upcast options, getting information each 1mm. Probes of fast temperature and shear are using to characterize the turbulence into the water.

SCAMP

A microprofiler SCAMP (Self Coantined Autonomus MicroProfiler) measures conductivity, temperature, depth and turbidity at 100Hz and is used to study mixing. The device is available (upon request) thanks to Professor Leon Boegman (Queen's University - Kingston, Canada)

CTD

A Profiler Seabird SBE 25 CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth) of 8Hz is used to characterize the spatial and temporal distribution of temperature, conductivity, turbidity and dissolved oxygen in the water column (until 600 m deep) of inland waters. Longitudinal and transverse measurements on the spatial domain can be made to identify longitudinal and vertical variations in long-time scales (months) to short-time scales of order of minutes to hours.

RiverRay

The RiverRay Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) allows to measure velocity (magnitude and direction) with an accuracy resolution of 1 mm/s. This device measures at depths between 0.3 m until 50 m with cell sizes of 0.1 to 0.8 m. The versatility of the instrument allows measurements at different locations, characterizing the spatial and temporal currents velocity.

AWACs

Two Acoustic Wave and Current Profiles (AWAC) are availables to measure currents. AWAC 1000 kHz can be deployed 30 m deep (cell size between 0.5 and 4 m) and the AWAC 600 kHz 50 m deep (cell size between 0.5 and 8 m). The resolution accuracy in both devices is around 0.5 cm/s.

Temperature Loggers

-  Loggers Hobo Pro V2 (0.2°C of accuracy) and Hobo Pendant (0.5°C of accuracy) are installed in different locations with the aim to identify temporal temperature changes in the ambient water column and tributaries. Thermistor strings are designed using the loggers.
- A monitoring buoy LakeESP (Lake Environmental Sensing Platform). 14 temperature loggers (0.01°C of accuracy) were installed near the dam in La Fe reservoir.

- A Lake Diagnostic System (LDS) was installed in Riogrande II reservoir. 21 temperature loggers (0.0004°C of accuracy) were installed near the dam.

Weather Stations

Two kinds of meteorological stations are used to measure weather variables such as temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, shortwave radiation, net longwave radiation, wind velocity and wind direction. The portable DAVIS Vantage Pro 2 weather station measures those variables, less net longwave radiation. Two fixed weather stations were installed along to thermistor chains (LakeESP and LDS). The fixed ones additionally measure longwave radiation.
